In Japan the art of tie-dye is known as Shibori, a word which roughly translates as “to wring” or “to bind”, and it is a collection of folding and binding techniques which can be used to create sophisticated designs on fabric.

We will look at how folding, wrapping, stitching and clamping can be used to make patterns and we will use both vibrant acid dyes and natural indigo. You will also learn how to make your own naturally fermented indigo vat at home.

In this workshop you will learn how to create beautiful patterns on silk and will take home an elegant silk scarf of your own creation, and a collection of colourful silk samples that you can use in your sewing projects!
